How CA results work

Results are usually declared five to eight weeks after the last exam of a session, and not all three levels come out on the same day. ICAI typically releases them in this order: Final first, then Intermediate, then Foundation — usually a few days to a couple of weeks apart.

Pass criteria: you need a minimum of 40% marks in each individual paper and 50% in aggregate across all papers in a group, to clear that group. If you score 60% or more in a paper but don't clear the group overall, that paper is exempted — you carry the exemption forward for your next three attempts (at that group) so you don't have to reappear for it, provided your aggregate still clears the 50% mark. This exemption rule applies at the Intermediate and Final levels; Foundation does not have a paper-wise exemption scheme.

ICAI also publishes an All India Merit List (Rank holders) for candidates in the top brackets of each level, alongside the pass list.

If something looks off with your result: ICAI allows two formal routes. You can apply for verification of marks (a recheck that totals are added correctly and all answers were evaluated — not a re-evaluation of judgment) for a fee of around ₹50 per paper. Separately, you can request a certified copy of your answer book for about ₹100 per paper, which lets you see your evaluated script yourself. Both are applied for through the SSP portal within the window ICAI announces after each result. There's also the option of an RTI application (nominal fee, around ₹10) if you want specific process information ICAI hasn't otherwise disclosed. Exact fees and windows shift slightly session to session — confirm the current ones on icai.org before applying.
