Board of Studies Knowledge Portal

ICAI BOS Portal What it is, and how to use it

ICAI's Board of Studies (BOS) runs a separate knowledge portal — boslive.icai.org — that hosts RTPs, MTPs, question papers, and suggested answers by level. Here's what's on it for each level, plus a better way to actually practice once you've read it.

RTPs and MTPs, in plain language

ICAI's Board of Studies runs boslive.icai.org as a dedicated portal, separate from the main icai.org site. It's the single place the Board of Studies (Academic) publishes live and recorded lectures, syllabus, study material, and — most useful for last-mile prep — two specific resources it releases fresh every exam session: RTPs and MTPs.

  • RTP (Revision Test Paper) is a revision aid, not a mock exam. ICAI publishes one per subject, per level, a few months ahead of each session (currently three a year — January, May, September), bundling important and recently-amended questions with ICAI's own suggested answers. It's meant as a bridge between the study material and the exam, checking whether you've absorbed the concepts and updates — ICAI itself notes RTP questions don't mirror the actual exam's question pattern.
  • MTP (Mock Test Paper) does the opposite: it's a full exam simulation. ICAI releases MTPs (usually two series per session) matching the real paper's format, mark distribution, and time limit, so you can practice writing a complete answer sheet under exam conditions before the actual day.

Both are different from real past papers. RTPs and MTPs are ICAI's own practice constructs — no batch of students has ever actually sat them as their final exam. The genuine papers students previously wrote, with ICAI's official suggested answers, are what our /pyq section covers.
